GARDEN CITY, Idaho, November 11, 2011 – Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County is one of 14 winners nationwide of a 2011 ConAgra Foods Foundation Nourish Our Community Award.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County has been awarded a $20,000 grant to support its after-school nutrition and fitness programs. The organization was nominated for the award by the local ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston office. ConAgra Foods Foundation Nourish Our Community Awards are given annually to nonprofit organizations that provide exceptional service to communities in which ConAgra Foods has operations. This year’s awards totaled $223,500.
The grant enables Boys and Girls Clubs to continue its innovative after-school nutrition and fitness programs. Created to encourage healthy food and lifestyle choices, the programs provide snacks and meals, exercise, and nutrition education to school age children six to 18. Snacks and meals feature fruits, vegetables, whole grains and freshly sliced meats; field trips to grocery stores help children learn how to shop for nutritious foods; and sports and fitness activities keep kids moving.
“This is a critical grant for us; allowing us to continue our work to do great things for food insecure children in the area,” said Colleen Braga, executive director, Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County. “Thanks to the grant, we can continue to provide nutritious, high quality food for kids, and activities designed to promote active lifestyles. At the same time, we’re helping to instill healthy habits that will stay with them for a lifetime.”
