Celebrating Earth Month

Growing a better tomorrow at Lamb Weston

April 1, 2026

At Lamb Weston, sustainability starts where our food does; with the land. Throughout Earth Month, including Earth Day on April 22, we’re focused on the steady, behind‑the‑scenes work that protects natural resources, supports growers, and keeps great food on the table; now and for the future.

Progress you can measure

In FY2024, our teams continued to improve efficiency in farming and manufacturing while upholding the highest standards for safety and quality. Highlights include responsible resource use across our value chain, from fields to facilities.

Global operations used 1,376 megaliters of water and 16.5 million GJ of energy, reflecting our focus on efficient manufacturing. In North American agriculture, we tracked 12.8 gallons of water per pound of crops harvested, 10.8 lbs. of nitrogen per ton, and 1.2 lbs. of active‑ingredient pesticide per ton—metrics that guide continuous improvement with our grower partners.

Our 2033 sustainability goals

We’re working toward clear, time‑bound targets that concentrate on the biggest levers in our supply chain:

  • Water: 25% reduction in freshwater withdrawal per pound produced (manufacturing).

  • Carbon: 25% reduction in Scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions per pound produced and 25% reduction in Scope 3 emissions per pound produced.

  • Food waste & materials: 50% reduction in food waste from processing and zero waste‑to‑landfill.

  • Sourcing & packaging: 100% certified sustainable fiber‑based packaging and 100% deforestation‑ and conversion‑free palm oil. Also, design packaging to be recycle‑ready, reusable, or compostable, and to include bio‑based or recycled content.

  • Agriculture: 100% of growers active in a sustainable agriculture program, plus 5% reductions in water, nitrogen, and active‑ingredient pesticides per ton harvested.

These goals help align daily decisions, from process optimization in our plants to regenerative practices in the field, so that progress compounds over time. Sustainability is a team sport. In FY2024, we strengthened knowledge‑sharing across our global network and continued investing in operational innovations that reduce impact while delivering for customers.

Join us this Earth Month:

  • Customers & operators: Choose recycle‑ready packaging streams where infrastructure exists and train teams on correct sorting.

  • Growers & suppliers: Engage with our sustainable agriculture program and data‑sharing to help drive the 5% input‑reduction targets.

  • Community partners: Explore collaboration on water stewardship and food‑waste diversion projects near our facilities.
